Fact sheet details why use of AI alleviates burden for providers and does not improperly increase coding intensity

The AHA explains how AI tools help reduce documentation time, improve coding accuracy, expand appointment capacity, and enhance staff and patient satisfaction. The fact sheet also notes that unsubstantiated claims of AI increasing coding intensity ignores underlying drivers of changes, including a sicker, higher-acuity hospital patient population. These claims also overlook the legal, ethical and contractual obligations on hospitals to ensure appropriate coding.
